4-H members from across the Province will be visiting the North West Territories and Northern Alberta on an Agriculture Development Tour.

Grade 12 student, Cassidy Read from Okotoks, has been in the 4-H program with the Okotoks Outriders 4-H club for six years, and won her spot on the trip at the annual 4-H Selections earlier this month at Olds College.

"Selections is a part of 4-H that Senior members (15-20 years old) are allowed to go to," Read said. "It tests your public speaking skills and how you interact with others, and you have a facilitator with you that is asking you questions, preparing you for adult life."

Read competed with 108 other 4-H members at Selections for opportunities to represent 4-H Alberta, as well as trips to the North West Territories, Toronto, California, and Ottawa.

"There's 24 members going this year, so we'll be on bus rides together and in tents, and I'm just excited to get to know everybody and see more of Canada."

The kids will gain local agricultural awareness, and also an appreciation of the culture and lifestyle of residents in different regions of Alberta and the North West Territories.

Also at Selections, was Millarville's Megan Rawn, who won a spot on the trip to Toronto and has been chosen as a 4-H Ambassador for the Calgary Region.

Evan Jamieson from Dalemead is the second Ambassador for the Calgary Region, and is also this year's 4-H Alberta Premier's Award recipient.
