About 40 per cent of crops have been harvested in Alberta, which is well behind the average pace thanks to an unusually wet and cold fall.

According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's latest crop report for Tuesday, October 2, the five year average harvest completion for this time of year is about 80 per cent.

The report shows provincially, nearly 49 per cent of spring wheat, 41 per cent of barley, 65 per cent of oats and 27 per cent of canola are still standing. There's also about 53 per cent of canola across the province in swath.

It adds, weather permitting, farmers who have access to grain dryers are likely to be combining soon, with priority given to higher valued crops.

The Peace Region which includes areas such as Fairview, Falher, Grande Prairie, and Valleyview, is the most behind in their harvest progress, trailing their five year average by 58 per cent.
