Western Canada's largest 4-H event took over the Calgary Stampede Grounds this past weekend, where members gathered to show off the hard work put into their projects.

4-H on Parade has been bringing members together for over 60 years to show their horses, sheep, steers, welding projects and much more, but the hard work also finally pays off for members raising funds for their chosen charities.

The 4-H on Parade charity steer was raised in honour of a late 4-H member.

Logan Jamieson with the Bow Valley Beef and Multi Club raised the steer, with the proceeds from the sale of the animal on Sunday, June 2 at the Stampede Grounds going to STARS air ambulance.

Jamieson says they named the steer "Choice".

"A past member of our Club named Jared Weston passed away in a bus accident, and his steer that year was named Choice. STARS were the ones who came to rescue him, but unfortunately it was too late."

Jared Weston passed away before Jamieson was born, but he says people in the Club remember Weston as a great person.

On STARS's website they say the Club started the charity steer sale tradition in 2001 in honour of Weston  with STARS as the recipient.

Choice brought in $26,112 during the auction thanks Ridgeback Resources who purchased the steer.

Also in Sunday's 4-H on Parade auction was a charity lamb raised by Samantha Horkoff from the Foothills Sheep and Multi 4-H Club.

Being youth themselves, Horkoff explains they wanted to donate the proceeds of the sale of the lamb to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to make a difference in other childrens' lives.

"That charity's basically about helping children who have lost their childhood due to having to go to medical appointments and living in the hospital, and so it gives them the opportunity to meet a famous person, or have a wish come true in their lives today."

The lamb went was sold to Thorlakson Feedyards for $2574.
