Combine dust has finally been spotted across the horizon this week.

It's been a while, but farmers are now back in their fields making some good progress thanks to this week's forecast.

The Province's four crop commissions, say as of last week, over $3 billion in crops are still out in Alberta fields.

In other words, that's 7.8 million unharvested acres.

The Government's being asked to prepare to respond quickly to unharvested acre claims and consider all options to help farmers deal with a difficult harvest.

"Farmers need an early and clear indication of what the next steps might be in dealing with severely downgraded and high moisture crops," said Alberta Barley Chair, Jason Lenz. "Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) needs to make prompt decisions to deal with claims and communicate information to farmers in a timely manner."

Alberta Pulse Growers Chair, D'Arcy Hilgartner, says the fall conditions farmers have been dealing with this year are worse than in 2016 when the weather caused many acres to remain unharvested.
