Dairy Farmers of Canada has heard very little about what kind of compensation they'll be getting.

The Federal Government said dairy farmers will be fairly compensated after it was announced three to four per cent of the Canadian dairy market will be open to American dairy under the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Dairy Farmers of Canada Vice President, David Wiens, says they're very disappointed with the trade agreement.

"We didn't get into dairy farming to be compensated, or somehow be subsidized, because we've always taken pride in the fact our revenue came from the market place, and of course it will be very difficult for this Government to actually undo the damage that's been created by this agreement."

Along with Canadian dairy farm families, Wiens says the trade deal will also be hard on dairy processors.

Earlier this month, Canada's Agriculture Minister, Lawrence MacAulay, said they plan to put a chairman in place to review the matter over the next several months.

On the bright side, Weins says many Canadians have responded positively to dairy farmers during this time of uncertainty by making an effort to buy all Canadian dairy products.
