In responding to the canola market issue with China, the Canadian government announced the Advance Payments Program (APP) limit in 2019 is going up from $400,000 to $1 million for all farmers. The interest-free portion for canola growers will be $500,000.

The AgriStability deadline has also been extended from April 30 to July 2, 2019.

“We continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Canadian farmers and farm families," said Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. "Together with farmers and our provincial-territorial partners, we’re looking for the best ways to support the sector and to ensure our programs provide farmers with the support they need. Extending the enrollment deadline means more farmers can join and benefit from government support in times of need.”

Minister of International Trade Diversification Jim Carr also announced will be leading a canola trade mission to Japan and South Korea in early June to try and expand markets for Canadian canola.
