The Alberta Wheat Commission is looking for farmers who want to take on a leadership role in the wheat industry.

Positions for two directors and three regional representatives are open in Regions 2 and 4.

Region 2 includes the M.D. of Foothills.

Kevin Auch, Chair of the Commission, is a director for Region 2, and says he's served on the AWC's board of directors since its inception in 2012.

"We have a maximum of two three year terms, and I am coming to the end of my term, so someone can run for my position as well."

Farmers who would like to be nominated for the open positions must have grown or sold wheat, and paid a check off to the Comission either in the current or previous fiscal year.

Auch says, the board sets the direction for wheat check off dollar investments.

"We invest approximatley two million dollars a year into reseach, and our second biggest area is market development. That's where we try to develop the markets for our wheat, and protect them, and make sure our customers understand the quality of wheat that we have and that we can deliver and help to feed the world with our very good quality Alberta wheat."

You can find the nomination packages at www.albertawheat.com. Packages must be recieved by October 31.
