Food and Farm Equipment Costs on the Rise Thanks to Trade War

Farmers are paying more for equipment thanks to the trade dispute between Canada and the U.S.

Foothills MP and Associate Ag Critic, John Barlow, said manufacturers have already increased their prices 5 to 15 per cent because of steel and aluminum tariffs.

Barlow said, we'll also be paying more for U.S. products like ketchup and sugar because of the retaliatory tariffs Canada has put on American products.

World Class Swine Genetics Research Centre Opens in Manitoba

Dutch swine genetics company Topigs Norsvin has officially opened its new research centre Northwest of Winnipeg.

The centre, known as Delta Canada, houses 26,000 pigs.

An Investment in Canada's Egg Industry

The Canadian Government is investing $844,000 to help develop an electronic scan to determine the gender and fertility of eggs.

The money will be given to the Egg Farmers of Ontario to study ways to minimize waste and address animal welfare matters.

The Canadian egg industry contributes over $1 billion annually to the Canadian economy and employs 17,000 people.
