Former Ag Minister Inducted into Ag Hall of Fame

The Canadian Agriculture Hall of Fame announced five new inductees.

The five men come from backgrounds in politics, economics, agri-food, cranberry farming, and canola plant breeding.

Amoung the five is Canada's former Agriculture Minister from 2007 to 2015, Gerry Ritz.

 

Monitoring Crop Diseases with the Spornado

The Spornado was on display at canolaPALOOZA in Lacombe last week.

The spore trap is set up in wheat and canola fields, and collects spores that are blown onto the field and cause certain crop diseases.

Farmers can then use the information to decide if, or when, they spray the crop.

Hay Yields Predicted to Be Lower This Year

Haying season is underway in Alberta.

Dryland and irrigated hay crops are being cut and baled across the Province, but according to Alberta Ag's latest crop report, yields are expected to be below normal because of poor spring moisture.

New Livestock Welfare Survey

Alberta Farm Animal Care will be conducting a survey for the new Livestock Welfare Engagement Project.

The findings will be presented to the Government of Alberta to create a clear picture of the extensive work being done in animal welfare and provide future direction.
