The North American Sheep Shearing Challenge

It was the North American Sheep Shearing Challenge at the Calgary Stampede last Sunday.

The Champion title went to Gavin Mutch from New Zealand, who sheared a sheep in 46 seconds in the semi-finals.

Mutch says, at the peak of his career he was shearing about 75,000 sheep a year.

 

Farm Group Donates $100,000 to STARS

The Canadian Canola Growers Association has donated $100,000 to STARS Air Ambulance.

STARS CEO, Andrea Robertson, says despite all best intentions and planning, incidents do happen on the farm.

She says, the support from the association will help keep STARS on the cutting edge and make sure farmers quickly receive specialized critical care.

Federal Ag Minister Wraps up Tour of the Country

The Federal Agriculture Minister has wrapped up the first part of his Growing Canadian Agriculture tour.

Lawrence MacAulay traveled the country for three weeks to see firsthand the work being done by farmers and food processors.

Right now, MacAulay is at the annual Conference of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers of Agriculture in Vancouver, BC.

The conference started Wednesday and wraps up Friday.

WheatStalk is happening in Lethbridge today.

The agronomy field day covers topics such as wheat diseases, beneficial insects and infrared sensor technology.
