Cattle Markets Begin 2018 on a Postive Note

Senior Analyst with Canfax, Brian Perillat, says the recent stregnth of the Canadian dollar hasn't had a big impact on the cattle markets, which is a bit out of the ordinary.

Perillat says, the cattle markets have been fairly strong over the last couple of weeks, with Western Canadian prices at a premium compared to other regions.

Overall, he says 2018 is starting off in good shape.

The CYL's Head to Denver

Five Cattlemen's Young Leaders are down in Denver taking advantage of travel opportunities the mentorship program provides.

Youth Leadership Coordinator with the Canadian Cattlemen's Association, Emily Ritchie, says they will be taking in the National Western Stock Show.

Ritchie says, to pick the five people going on the trip,  the young leaders participated in a social media competition.

 

Huge Potential for Drones in Agriculture

Drones have a lot of potential for crop mapping, scouting analysis, and variable rate fertilizers.

That from Nicholas Gust with Alta Drone, based out of Lethbridge.

Gust says, his drone is different than the four rotor helicopters with a camera most people have.

He says, his drone has a six foot wing span, and can cover half a section of land in a one hour flight.
