Growers Looking for Transparency and Predictability from India

The Chair of Alberta Pulse Growers says, they're looking for transparency and predictability from India.

Last year, India started putting import tariffs on certain pulses.

Darcy Hilgartner says, the concern is countries affect by the tariffs could reduce their pulse plantings, and in the past, India couldn't meet their countries needs on their own.

Food Freedom Day

Last Friday was Food Freedom Day.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture has calculated that by February 9, a Canadian household of average income will have earned enough to pay their entire year's grocery bill.

Canadians spent 11% of their disposable income on food in 2017, compared to 10.7% in 2016.

A New Management Structure for Two Alberta Commissions

The Alberta Wheat Commission and Alberta Barley will continue with their shared management structure.

They did a four month trial period of the structure, and Tom Steve will serve as the General Manager of both commissions.

The two commissions say, moving to a single management sector is a logical next step, as they have been sharing an office since 2013.
