FarmTech Wraps Up Today

Today is the last day for FarmTech in Edmonton.

This afternoon, the sold out event will hear a keynote address from the Right Honourable Stephen Harper; Canada's 22nd Prime Minister.

 

NAFTA talks in Montreal

The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) is welcoming the progress made during the latest round of NAFTA negotiations held in Montreal.

The latest round of talks provided an opportunity to highlight Canada's food and beverage manufacturing sector.

Agri-food trade between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico has quadrupled over the life of the agreement to more than $90 billion annually.

 

It Pays to Raise Sustainable Beef

Beef industry groups recently launched the Canadian Beef Sustainability Acceleration pilot project.

The one-year pilot project aims to create a certified sustainable beef supply chain, where financial credits are given to cow-calf and feedlot operations.

Virgil Lowe with Verified Beef Production Plus says, the project is step two moving on from the McDonalds sustainable beef pilot project.

Lowe says, McDonalds, Loblaws, Original Joe's, and Swiss Chalet, have agreed to provide financial incentives for the pounds of beef that make it through the certified sustainable beef supply chain.
