Reducing Food Waste

Walmart has announced a commitment to achieve zero food waste by 2025 in it's Canadian operations.

The Walmart Foundation is donating about $19 million in funding to support Canadian initiatives and research to reduce food waste along the food chain, from farm to fork.

From 2015 to 2017, Walmart has reduced food waste in it's Canadian operations by 23 per cent.

 

Rail Transportation a Hot Topic in Ottawa

Grain farmers from across Canada were in Ottawa for National Grain Week.

Last week, members of grain growers of Canada met with Members of Parliament and Ministers to advocate for policies for the ag sector.

President of Grain Growers of Canada, Jeff Nielsen, says the group was in Ottawa when CP Rail employees were planning to strike, and they emphasized the importance of quickly passing Bill C-49.

Canola Growers Cautioned About Using Quinclorac

Canola growers are being advised to contact their grain buyer before using the herbicide quinclorac this growing season.

Processors and exporters will not commit to accepting canola treated with quinclorac in 2018, until a report on the maximum residue level for the herbicide is finalized.

Maximum residue levels are a benchmark for trade compliance not human health.
