Strategies for a Shorter Growing Season

An Alberta seed grower has a strategy for an early harvest.

Owner of Mastin Seeds in Sundre, Bob Mastin, says the Early One Polish canola can be harvested roughly a month earlier than the average canola.

He adds, another option is AAC Peace River which is an early maturing yellow pea variety, and is also the earliest maturing pea in Canada.

Mastin says, these varieties work well to follow with winter wheat, or in the case of this year, when farmers may have a shorter growing season.
