Possible Strike at CP Rail

The possibility of a strike at CP Rail could be bad news for farmers who have already dealt with rail delays this year.

Train conductors, engineers, and signal maintainers have been operating without a contract since the old one expired last year.

CP Rail says, meetings are planned for this week with the two unions collectively representing over 3,000 workers.

A strike at CP Rail could happen as early as this Saturday, April 21.

 

Update on CN Rail's Grain Movement Progress

CN Rail says, they delivered 6,038 grain cars across Western Canada last week, exceeding their weekly target of 5,000 cars.

They say, they've been able to deliver over 5,500 cars for six consecutive weeks now, and this week they'll fulfill all their orders.

During the last two weeks, CN Rail has met with stakeholders across the prairie provinces and apologized for the recent poor service.

Farmers in Southern Alberta are wondering when they'll get in the fields as overland flooding has become an issue in some areas.

Yesterday, the Province issued emergency alerts in Vulcan County and the the MD of Willow Creek.

Lethbridge County also declared a state of local emergency yesterday due to overland flooding.

Funding for Canada's Dairy Industry

Last week, the Federal Government announced they've invested over $2.2 million into Canada's dairy industry.

The funding, which is flowing through the Growing Forward 2 Agri-Marketing program, will be used to assist dairy farmers of Canada to roll out an on-farm customer assurance program and national traceability system.

Over $1 million will be used to implement the proaction initiative, while another million or so will be spent  to develop and implement a national traceability program.
