50 Years of Red Angus Registration in Canada

This year marks the 50th Anniversary Red Angus cattle were eligible for registration in the Canadian Angus herdbook, even though they've been in Canada much longer.

CEO of the Canadian Angus Association, Rob Smith, says the red colour is a recessive trait and black is dominant.

Smith says, says back in the day, the red colour was seen as in impurity in Angus breeding, but later gained popularity for cross-breeding.

He adds, after years of research, there's no difference between Black and Red Angus cattle besides colour.

Keep it Clean This Growing Season

Pulse Canada reminds producers to keep it clean this growing season.

Pulse Canada's Manager of Market Access and Trade Policy, Mac Ross, says even if there's a label for a crop protection product in Canada, it can still raise some market access concerns.

Ross encourages growers to visit the keep it clean website to see what crop protection products might cause concern in the global market place.

Quebec Cattlemen Join CCA

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association welcomes Quebec cattle producers to the group.

The announcement of the new membership was made last week by Chairman of Les Producteurs de bovins du Quebec (PBQ), Claude Viel.

The PBQ is a provincial agricultural association with a goal of increasing cattle production in Quebec by 50 per cent by 2050.

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association represents over 60 thousand cattle farms in Canada.
