A province wide initiative organized by a High River couple to get Christmas decorations to Fort Mac officially gets under way Saturday October 22 at the High River Home Hardware.

Organizer Terry Lempriere says they're looking for specific things to make the holidays a little brighter.

"We're asking for new ornaments in original wrapping and artificial Christmas trees. Our target is 300 Christmas trees with enough decorations for those trees."

He says the event gets underway at 10:30am and will include bouncy castles and refreshments and an appearance by broadcasting legend Darrel Janz.

Lempriere says they're looking for all kinds of decorations.

"It can be anything from wreathes to wrapping paper, Christmas cards and trees, anything people would typically have to help celebrate Christmas."

He adds there's a reason he wants all of the donations in boxes.

"So that they can be transported in the truck and they will arrive safely. Bringing them in grocery bags and garbage bags won't work because they won't be protected."

He says after the event on Saturday donations can be made at three High River locations until October 30.
