The local Parent Link Centres are getting together to host a program aimed at identifying children at risk at the age of three.

The free program's called I Am Three, Explore With Me and Michelle Kessel says it's a good program for the kids to be involved in.

"Any child turning three this year will be eligible to participate in our event and the kids get to play in all sorts of different stations and what they're actually doing is showing us what they've learned," she says. "We've found in the past there's kind of a gap between when children and parents have stopped going to the doctor for those regularly scheduled developmental check-ins and when they get to kindergarten."

She says a lot time parents aren't aware of exactly what three year olds should be capable of doing.

It could help them find things like speech or motor delays at an early age to allow parents to get help before the child reaches kindergarten.

She says experts are on hand to interact with the kids and talk with the families and there are lots of resources on hand for parents to take home.

Events will be held in High River, Okotoks and Turner Valley later in the fall.
