A Different Kind of Wellness Wednesday

A DIFFERENT KIND OF WELLNESS WEDNESDAY...  AND DUCT TAPE.

Wellness can be attained in different ways.  We've mainly been focusing on physical wellness, but mental wellness is important as well.  It's said that "laughter is the best medicine" and although it may not be the "best", laughter is a way to relieve stress, return balance to the mind and body and can even boost your immunity!  This is where the duct tape comes in!  Charlie Brown had a chance yesterday to catch up with Rick Green.  Rick is one of the creators behind the Canadian cult comedy, Red Green!  You've even seen him on the show many times as the bumbling "Bill"!  You can laugh along with Rick as he shows his unique humour and chats about ADD/ADHD tonight in a show for the CanLearn Society, at 7:00 at the Cardel Theatre, 180 Quarry Park Blve SE.  To register for the show visit the link.

MAJOR CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENT COMING

Coming up on Friday we've got ANOTHER major concert announcement!

BACK ON TERRA FIRMA

Our 2013 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshall is back on solid ground after his Russian Soyuz capsule successfully descended from the International Space Station and landed in Kazakhstan last night.  Sometime in the near future, Chris plans on heading to his family's cottage in Ontario to unwind, and then we'll see him for the Parade!

NHL PLAYOFFS ROUND 2

The elite eight in the NHL has been established with the conclusion of 2 series last night.  Unfortunately for the Leafs, it all crumbled in 9 minutes.  They held a 3 goal lead late in the 3rd and allowed the Bruins to score 3 goals, the final 2 in the last 82 seconds, to tie the game and force overtime.  Boston's Patrice Bergeron put the game away just past 6 minutes into overtime.  That leaves the Ottawa Senators as the remaining Canadian team in the playoffs.  The NY Rangers also took out the Capitals cleanly with a big 5-0 win in their game seven.  Bring on round 2!  Starts tonight!

Chicago  v Detroit

Los Angeles v San Jose

Pittsburgh v Ottawa

Boston V NY Rangers

CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENT COMING

Later on this week we've got ANOTHER major concert announcement!  Keep listening to find out how you can beat the box office!

EXTREME WILDFIRE CONDITIONS

The province has issued an extreme wildfire warning as 2 communities in central Alberta have been evacuated after being threatened by fire.  Please be extremely careful if you're driving off road, hot spots under your vehicle can cause dry grass to ignite, and if you smoke make sure your cigarettes are extinguished properly, and DON'T flick them out the window of the car!

Hope and Healing Gala was awesome!

Saturday Night was the annual Hope & Healing Gala for the Rowan House Emergency Shelter.  The Highwood Memorial Centre was transformed into a beautiful and elegant room.

Rowan table May 11

The place quickly filled with many dignitaries from the Foothills along with the Calgary Stampede Royalty and of course supporters of this most amazing facility.

Rowan room May 11

They played a great video to give everyone a peak into what the new facility, which has been open for 10 months now, looks like and it was concluded with a tearful message from Mr and Mrs Sands from Okotoks who lost their daughter to domestic violence this past year.

Premliniary numbers from the event see funds raised in the $70,000!

Rowan chairs May 11

Rowan House Gala Chairs, Sherrie Botten and Ally Cramm

These ladies, along with many other vounteers put on another enjoyable event for all who came. Our local news section of High River Online will have a full update with Rowan House on Monday.  Thanks to all who came out on Saturday Night!

Stephanie Hopf from High River Online News and I got to get dressed up and have some fun!  Thanks to Lori Loree of Loree Photography for taking this awesome picture of us radio girls!

"I'M SORRY MUM..."

Mother's Day is on the way!  Now instead of the usual stories about how good your Mum is, we thought we'd give it a little different twist this year.  We want to know what you're sorry for doing to your Mum!  I'll give you an example:  I once hit my Mum in the face (I was messing around, but it was an accident) with a putter while playing mini golf!  Give us a call, we'll record your apology, and then get your Mum to listen at 7:15, 12:15, or 5:15 cause we'll be playing them!  All apologies will be entered into a draw for our Mother's Day grand Prize!  $100 gift certificates to each of The Western Gift & Dollar Store in Nanton, and Timothy Fred's or T-Fred's Too!  Call in with your stories anytime this morning!  If you leave a message, include your apology, and your name and phone number so we can contact you!  403-652-4997

SunCountry and McHappy Day!

The McDonalds in High River is THE place to be today!  It is McHappy Day!  That means a lot of money being raised for Ronald McDonald House and local charities in the Foothills.  Charlie Brown from AM 1140's Morning Show was on hand bright and early this morning slinging hashbrowns, along with bright eyed, and bushy tailed, Sean Emmett from the SunCountry News Team.

During the lunch rush, myself, Stephanie Hopf, along with our awesome Drive Home Show Dude,  Mark Dawes, were out to pour coffee, man the drive-tru and get folks to pony up a buck for a boot.  Not a litteral boot just one to stick on the wall!

We also were honored to have country music recording artist, Jamie Stever, to treat everyone to some great country tunes.  Check out www.jamiestever.com !

As always High Riverites are out supporting McHappy and being treated to some tasty samples too!

McHappy Day runs all day today and we look forward to letting you know just how much was raised over the day to support such an amazing thing as Ronald McDonald House.

For more information on Ronald McDonald House visit http://www.rmhccanada.com/.
