The Alberta Wheat Commission had a busy three days at the Lethbridge Ag Expo last week.

Commission Chair Gary Stanford was at the trade show on Friday, March 1, which was the same day a new Federal Ag Minister was appointed in the cabinet shuffle.

Prince Edward Island Member of Parliament and previous Ag Minister, Lawrence MacAulay, moved to the veterans affair file, filling the void left by Jodi Wilson-Raybould's resignation.

Marie-Claude Bibeau from Quebec was appointed to lead the agriculture portfolio, making her Canada's first female Agriculture Minister.

Stanford says they were happy to work with Minister MacAulay over the years.

"He's been helping us work on a lot of our trade issues and research issues with agriculture, and now that he's going to be moved onto Veterans Affairs, we're looking forward to looking with the new Agriculture Minister Bibeau."

In a release, the Alberta Wheat and Barley Commissions say they appreciate Minister MacAulay’s overall contributions to the Federal Government's goal of increasing global agricultural exports to $75 billion by 2025.

Standford adds, they hope Bibeau will help move agriculture forward by addressing trade and transportation issues.
