A Combine World Record!

Last weekend, 303 combines in Winkler, Manitoba harvested a winter wheat field in under seven minutes, setting a new Guinness World Record for the most combines working simultaneously for five or more minutes.

This beats the previous world record of 244 combines set in Saskatchewan.

 

Combines Are Rolling in Southern Alberta

Harvest has started in the South East area of Southern Alberta.

According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's latest crop report, harvest may be sooner than expected in select areas of the province due to dry conditions.

Crop conditions in the South and Central areas are significantly below the provincial average.

PED Environmental Test Proves Positive in Saskatchewan Transport Trailer

A routine sampling process for PED (Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea) virus resulted in a positive environmental test from a transport trailer in Saskatchewan.

The PED virus has caused the death of thousands of pigs in Canada and the U.S.

Saskatchewan’s Disease Surveillance Veterinarian, Dr. Wendy Wilkins, says the sample wasn't taken from the live animals, and the province hasn't had PED confirmed in live animals since the outbreak started in North America about four years ago.

 

Canada's Ag Minister Wraps Up Trade Mission

Federal Agriculture Minister, Lawrence MacAulay, wrapped up his agricultural outreach mission to Argentina and Chile.

During his visit, MacAulay emphasized the strong North-South linkages already forged between farmers and producers throughout the Western Hemisphere, and urged the creation of more.
