Diamond Valley Campaign turns black to green

Earth Day is April 22nd, and to celebrate, the Town of Diamond Valley is kicking off a six-month-long campaign.

Their "Green and Blue are the New Black" campaign is designed to help the community rethink their waste management practices and perceptions.

This campaign showcases that most household waste doesn't actually need to be sent off to the dump, and they will provide information on the proper disposal of hazardous waste found around the home.

As part of the campaign, the Town will provide education outreach, where there will be regular educational segments that focus on what items should go into the green and blue bins respectively.

They will also address residents' concerns, explain how the recycling process works, educate people on the importance of not contaminating the recycling and compost streams, emphasize the convenience of the three-bin system and the environmental benefits of properly sorted waste, and more.

The campaign aims to increase participation and the quality of the waste streams.

Properly separating the recycling, compost, and trash, is a critical step towards reducing the amount of waste that makes it to the landfill, which will prolong their lifespan and decrease the amount of methane emissions that are being created.

Which will lower the landfill's contribution of greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change.
